Midway, Ky. – After having the last week off from competition, the Midway University men's basketball team returned to action on Thursday, February 9, when they hosted Cincinnati Christian (Ohio) in a River States Conference west division matchup.
The Eagles were unable to overcome a cold shooting night as Cincinnati Christian (11-16, 8-7 RSC) shot over 48 percent to walk away with the 87-58 victory.
Midway (2-21, 2-13 RSC) struggled to get a shot to fall as they shot just 32.3 percent from the floor (21-65) and 27.8 percent from behind the arc going 5-of-18. Cincinnati Christian didn't struggle as they shot 48.6 percent overall (34-70) and 39.3 percent from 3-point land (11-28).
Both teams came out firing as they would trade baskets over the opening minutes. A layup by Jake Logsdon (Rumsey, Ky.) gave Midway a 6-5 lead, but the visitors responded with a 9-1 spurt to take a 14-8 advantage.
Cincinnati Christian stretched their lead out to as many as eight, but a triple from Will Hudson (Calhoun, Ky.) trimmed the lead down to three midway through the first half. CCU answered with a 16-0 run pushing their lead out to 19 en route to a 44-28 lead at intermission.
Hudson came out firing in the second half as well as he drained a trey cutting the deficit down to 13, but Cincinnati Christian would prove to be too much. CCU would continue to add to their lead in the second half as they walked away with the 87-59 win.
The Eagles had two players finish in double figures led by Brandon Johnson (Louisville, Ky.) who finished with a game-high 19 points. Hudson added 10, while Brandon Maxwell (Leesville, La.) pitched in with seven points and eight rebounds.
Midway will return to action on Saturday, February 11, when they travel to the "Hoosier State" for a matchup with Indiana University Kokomo.
