Chillicothe, Ohio – The Midway University baseball team pushed their record to 2-0 in the River States Conference Baseball Tournament after picking up a 16-11 victory over Indiana University Southeast on Sunday night at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe, Ohio.

The Midway offense came alive for the second game in a row as they broke the program record scoring 16 runs on 15 hits, while the Grenadiers (43-12) plated 11 runs on 11 hits.

With the win, the Eagles (26-27) remain as the only undefeated team of the five teams remaining in the six team tournament. Luther Bramblett's squad will play again on Monday at 7 p.m. ET against the winner of Point Park (Pa.) and Indiana University Southeast who play at 11 a.m. ET.

The Grenadiers got off to a quick start as they plated two runs in the first frame, but Midway answered with two of their own in the bottom half. Barrett Croslin (Russellville, Ky.) delivered an RBI triple, while Carlos Cespedes (Santo Domingo, D.R.) ripped a double scoring Croslin.

The senior played long ball with his tenth home run of the season. Quinones showcased his power as he went opposite field for a two-run home run over the right field fence. Croslin singled and later scored on a wild pitch to push Midway's lead to 8-3 after four complete.

The Eagles continued the offensive onslaught with four more runs in the sixth inning. In the inning, Danny Maguire (Dana Point, Calif.) picked up an RBI on a bases loaded walk, DJ Lewis (San Diego, Calif.) tallied an RBI on a fielder's choice as Cespedes came around to score on an error in the same play. Lewis then scored on a double by Jones to make the lead 12-3.

After IUS cut the lead to 12-9 with six in the seventh, Midway answered the bell one more time with four more runs in the bottom half to push their lead back out to 16-9 nine. Josh Wenning (Palmyra, Ind.) opened the inning with a walk and later scored on a ground out by Cespedes.

After a double by Quinones and an intentional walk to Croslin, Maguire laced a double that scored both Quinones and Croslin. Maguire then made the lead 16-9 when he scored on a triple by DJ Lewis.

The Grenadiers made it interesting in the ninth scoring two runs, but Jake McCoy (Mesa, Ariz.) nailed down the final three outs to seal the 16-11 victory.
