Chillicothe, Ohio – The Midway University baseball team continued their undefeated run in the River States Conference Baseball Tournament on Monday afternoon as they defeated No. 21 Indiana University Southeast, 4-2, at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe, Ohio.

Indiana University Southeast was in the game after they defeated Point Park (Pa.), 13-8, earlier in the day. The Eagles downed the Grenadiers (45-13), 4-3, after they scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings and two in the sixth.

With the win, Midway advances to the championship game on Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. ET against West Virginia Tech. The Eagles only have to win one game to take home the title. The Golden Bears, on the other hand, will have to sweep the doubleheader to claim the title.

Through the first two games of the RSC Tournament, Midway (27-27) has turned into an offensive juggernaut scoring 29 runs over 16 innings. The tables turned on Monday night as their offense produced just four runs, but the Eagles got back to what they do best, pitching.

Midway skipper, Luther Bramblett, got a seven inning gem from his starter, Hector Quinones (Barceloneta, PR). The senior took home the win as he tossed seven frames allowing two runs on eight hits, while fanning five.

Derek Jones (Mt. Washington, Ky.) tossed a 1-2-3 inning in the eighth that set up Jake McCoy (Mesa, Ariz.) in the ninth. McCoy allowed a run in the inning on one hit, but he stranded the game tying run at second base after getting two strikeouts and a ground out to seal the victory. The save was the eighth of the season for McCloy.

After IUS scored a run in the second, Midway answered with a run in the fourth tying the game. Carlos Cespedes (Santo Domingo, D.R.) reached on a fielder's choice and the next batter, Danny Maguire (Dana Point, Calif.) sent a double off the wall in left to plate Midway's first run.

The Eagles then took their first lead of the ball game in the fifth. Reid Battles (Denton, Texas) got it started with a one-out single. After Battles stole second, he scored on a RBI single by Matthew Olson (Louisville, Ky.).

The Grenadiers answered with a run in bottom half, but the Eagles answered with two of their own in the sixth. Once again hooking up for the first run was the duo of Carlos Cespedes and Danny Maguire.

Cespedes legged out an infield single, as Maguire roped his second double of the game, he sent this one off the wall in deep center as Cespedes easily scored on the play. After a hit-by-pitch to load the bases, Battles hit a sacrifice fly to right-center as Maguire came around to score.

IU Southeast made things interesting late in the games, but McCoy got a pair of strikeouts and a 4-3 ground out to to end the threat and send his team to the championship game on Tuesday.

Offensively, the Eagles tallied nine hits with Maguire leading the way, going 3-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored. Barrett Croslin (Russellville, Ky.) added a 2-for-4 day, while Battles tallied an RBI and a run scored and Olson drove in one run. Cespedes also scored twice.
