Lima, Ohio – The Midway University baseball team will begin play in the 2017 NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. ET when they take on MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.).
The game will take place at Racers Field at the St. Rita's Sports Complex on the campus of the University of Northwestern Ohio. UNOH is providing live stats and live video for all games with a small charge of $7.95 per game or $24.95 for an entire tournament pass.
The Eagles earned their way to the NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round after winning the River States Conference Baseball Tournament. Midway enters the Opening Round with a 28-28 record overall.
Luther Bramblett's team is led by one of the best pitching staffs in the NAIA. With more than 400 innings pitched, the Eagles have collected a team earned run average of 3.31, which ranks eighth in the country. Opponents are also hitting .245 against, which is 17th in the NAIA.
Midway will look to build on the momentum they built in the conference tournament. During the regular season, Midway averaged 4.13 runs per game and batted .254, while slugging .350. But, so far in the postseason, they are averaging 8.6 runs per game, hitting .320 and slugging .440.
Picking up the automatic bid out of the Heart of America Athletic Conference was MidAmerica Nazarene. The Pioneers won the Heart of America as they enter the Opening Round with a 34-18 overall record.
MidAmerica Nazarene will lean on their offense to do most of the damage. In over 52 games on the season, they are averaging 6.92 runs per game, while hitting .311 and slugging .489. They have also slugged 108 doubles, 10 triples and 48 home runs.
Pitching wise, the Pioneers own a 4.39 ERA that covers 379.1 innings pitched. The have allowed 67 doubles, six triples and 25 home runs as opponents are hitting .246 against. MidAmerica Nazarene has struck out 337 batters and walked 183 on the season.
Admission per day will be $7 for adults and $5 for students. Tournament passes will also be available at the gate for $12 for adults and $10 for students.
