Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. – For the second day in a row Mother Nature has wreaked havoc on the 2017 NAIA Women's Golf National Championship as the second round was postponed due to inclement weather in the Palm Beach Gardens, Florida area.
The 161-golfer field faced a similar situation on Tuesday when the first round was postponed after storms moved in during the late afternoon and lasted throughout the evening.
After facing gusty winds of approximately 15-30 mph throughout the day, approaching weather forced a delay and an eventual postponement of Wednesday's second round. The postponement did not allow all of the teams teeing off in the afternoon wave to finish their rounds. The teams that did not complete the second round will continue play at 7:30 a.m. EDT Thursday morning.
Midway was one of the 15 teams that were able to finish their second round. The Eagles finished up their first round with a 341 and followed that up with a 347 in the second round for a two-round score of 688. They are currently in a tie for 22nd place with Cumberland (Tenn.).
The duo of Kathryn Lawler (Georgetown, Ky.) and Chelsea Schack (Alexandria, Ky.) were Midway's two players that didn't finish their first round on Monday. With three holes remaining in their opening round, Lawler had a 64 and Schack had a 73.
Lawler finished her first round with a 3-over, 75, while Schack finished up with an 88 in her opening round. Also in the first round, Rylee Beard (Campbellsville, Ky.) carded a 90, Hannah Scroggins (Williamstown, Ky.) shot an 88 and Amanda Cox (Willisburg, Ky.) had a 92.
Leading the way for Midway in the second round was Lawler. The junior finished her second round with an 83 (38-45).
Following close behind Lawler in the second round was Cox. The junior improved from her 92 in the first round and carded an 85 (39-46) in the second.
Finishing three shots behind Cox was Scroggins. The freshman finished with an 88 (42-46) in the second round for a total of 166.
The third round will take place tomorrow after the conclusion of round two.
