Berea, Ky. – The Midway University women's cross country team hit the course for their first event of the 2017 campaign on Friday, September 8, when they competed in the Berea College/Centre College Cross Country Jamboree in Berea, Kentucky.
Under first year head coach, Rob Lyon, the Eagles took home a fifth place finish in the season opening event. They finished with a team score of 147 – just 12 points behind the University of Virginia's College at Wise, who finished in fourth place.
Leading the way for Midway was sophomore transfer, Morgan Knox (Tipton, Ind.). Knox finished the event with a time of 14:20.01.
Finishing within 20 seconds of each other was the trio Josette Isaacs (Grayson, Ky.), Nicole Schowalter (Dayton, Ky.) and Rachelle Felski (Windber, Pa.). Isaacs finished with a time of 15:10.71, while Schowalter and Felski came in with times of 15:25.73 and 15.26.30, respectively.
Finishing a few seconds behind Felski was Philippa Asherwood (Chisamba, Zambia). The freshman ended the event with a time of 15:46.96.
The final two runners in action for the Eagles was the freshman duo of Yajeidy Gonzalez (Lexington, Ky.) and Cassie Fryman (Brooksville, Ky.). Gonzalez finished with a time of 18:49.12 and Fryman came in at 19:40.22.
Lyon's squad will return to action on Saturday, September 16, when they run in the Berea College Invitational in Berea, Kentucky.
