New Albany, Ind. -- Men's Soccer senior, Christian Neira, was voted as the River States Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, September 11, for his performance the week of September 4-10.
The senior goalkeeper from Santiago, Chile helped lead Midway to their first victory of the season last week against Marian (Ind.). The weekly honor is the second in the career for Neira after he took home the same award in the 2016 season.
In Midway's 1-0 victory over the Knights, Neira stopped five shots, while playing all 90 minutes in goal en route to picking up the shutout victory. Neira made a couple of key diving saves during the match to keep Marian off the scoreboard. The shutout was the sixth in his career.
Neira ranks in the top five in a couple of different categories in the River States. He ranks fifth in saves per game at 5.33 and he ranks third in saves with 16. He also ranks in the top-50 in the NAIA in total saves.
Neira and the Eagles are back in action on Tuesday, September 9, when they travel to Barbourville, Ky. to take on Union (Ky.) at 7 p.m. ET.
