London, Ky. -- The Midway University women's golf team wrapped up their second event in the fall portion of their schedule on Tuesday when they played the second and final round of the Bill Sergent Invitational at Crooked Creek Golf Club in London, Kentucky.
The Eagles shot a 336 in the opening round on Monday and then on Tuesday they followed that up with a 340 to finish with a 676 in fourth place. They finished six strokes ahead of St. Francis (Ind.) who came in at fifth place.
The host, Cumberlands (Ky.), won the event after they had a total score of 632 (311-321). The University of Northwestern Ohio came in at second place with a 647 (319-328), while Cumberland (Tenn.) finished in third with a 671 (339-332).
Leading the way for the Eagles was senior, Kathryn Lawler. The Georgetown, Ky. native competed in the event as an individual and finished with a 162 (77-85) to come in a tie for seventh place. Lawler carded the second most birdies in the tournament with four.
Finishing one shot behind Lawler was Hannah Scroggins (Williamstown, Ky.). The sophomore improved on her first round score of 82 by one stroke after shooting an 81 in the second round for a total score of 163. Her 163 earned her a ninth place finish.
Joining Lawler and Scroggins in the top-10 was junior, Rylee Beard. The Campbellsville, Ky. native stayed consistent over the two rounds with a pair of 82's for a two-round score of 164. She finished the Bill Sergent Invitational in a tie for 10th place.
The trio Chelsea Schack (Alexandria, Ky.), Mercedes Lane (Henderson, Ky.) and Jenna Lewis (Shelbyville, Ky.) all finished within four strokes of one another. The senior duo of Schack and Lane carded total scores of 174 (86-88) and 177 (88-89), respectively. Lewis, a freshman, competing in her second collegiate event finished with a 178 (86-92).
The Eagles will return to the links next week on September 12-13 when they travel over to Cherry Blossom Golf and Country Club to compete in the Mid-South Conference Fall Invitational.
