Prestonsburg, Ky. -- The Midway University women's golf is in first place after Saturday's first round of the UPIKE Fall Invitational at StoneCrest Golf Course.
The Eagles lead the five team field after they finished with a total score of 327 in the opening round. They lead second place Pikeville (Ky.) by one stroke heading into the second round.
Leading the way for Midway was senior, Chelsea Schack. The Alexandria, Ky. native sits in second place after shooting a 76 on Saturday. She shot a 39 on the front nine and a 37 on the back nine. She trails Baylee Salyers of Georgetown (Ky.) who shot a 73 in the first round.
Up next for Midway was fellow senior, Kathryn Lawler (Georgetown, Ky.). Lawler came out and shot a 38 on the front nine and a 42 on the back for an 80 in her opening round. She is in a tie for fifth place heading into the second round.
Rounding out the scoring for the Eagles was junior, Rylee Beard (Campbellsville, Ky.) and freshman, Jenna Lewis (Shelbyville, Ky.). Beard sits in eighth place after a shooting an 83 in the first round, while Lewis shot an 88 and sits in 15th place overall.
The final two players in action for the Eagles was sophomore, Hannah Scroggins (Williamstown, Ky.) and Taylor Ritchie (Winchester, Ky.). Scroggins shot a 90 in the first round, while Ritchie shot a 95.
The Eagles will look to hang on to first place as they begin the second and final round of the UPIKE Fall Invitational on Sunday morning at StoneCrest Golf Course.
