Coach Otis Smith joined the Midway University coaching staff as the institution's first Head Golf Coach ahead of the 2013-14 season.
Coach Smith is a PGA Professional having completed the Professional Golf Management Program, a three-year course in golf business management and being elected to PGA membership in January, 2008. During his ten-year tenure as a golf professional at East Lake Golf Club’s Charlie Yates Course in Atlanta, Ga., Coach Smith taught over 900 students how to play the game. Additionally, he has taught classes at Emory University, as well as other schools in the Atlanta-metro area, including Morehouse College, Spelman College, and Agnes Scott College. He was also assistant golf coach at Savannah College of Art and Design - Atlanta (SCAD).
Smith’s coaching style is instructive and motivational, and his philosophy toward golf is based on a strong work ethic, competitive spirit and experiencing the enjoyment of the game.
Coach Smith is a native of Atlanta, Ga. and a veteran of the U.S. Army. While in the Army, he attended Columbia College. Prior to his career in golf, Coach Smith worked as a Human Resources manager for 13 years. He is married to Dr. Cassandra Smith, Assistant Program Director at Morehead State University, and they have two children, Andre and Nicolette. He continues to pursue his dream of playing on the PGA Tour, by competing in golf tournaments and trying to qualify for Web.com and PGA Tour events.
